Martin Grohs has created many brilliant photo-manipulations. He has always had a major influence on my works when creating in Photoshop. Something that I've picked up from him and use heavily in my work is the idea of using multi-media assets to create a single picture. For example, bringing in vector designs from Illustrator, sculpting abstract shapes in Cinema 4D, as well as creating from imagination in Photoshop.
I've always had a tendency to gravitate towards abstraction in my work. My mind is always racing, and constantly thinking of multiple situations, ideas, and concepts. I feel that this shows in my abstract work, because I try to make it seem like it's all over the place, while still trying to maintain the balance of flow and proper blending.

Pete Harrison is another brilliant digital artist who I frequently look to for inspiration. His explosive colors and effects always catch my eye and give me the motivation to create.
This piece is a perfect representation of how I view my creative work process. I am a massive perfectionist, but at the same time realize that nothing is perfect. I am constantly striving for the impossible, knowing full well that I will never be able to achieve it. The absolute beauty and the disintegration of the body mixed with the splattered paint are a great contrast and prime example of the idea of chasing perfection.

I've recently discovered the works of Kevin Roodhorst. His work is filled with great detail and beautiful flowing imagery, and has inspired a lot of my recent work. I have started taking more of my own personal stock photos, after seeing all the work he does containing pieces that he has shot himself.
When creating pieces like this, I often try to come up with the original concept beforehand. Often times however, I will start with the foundation stock photo, and build randomly around it until the artwork begins to create itself. The art is already there, you just have to know how to dig for it.

This poster was the first piece I discovered by vector artist Tom Whalen. This, and all his other works, were the main reason I fell in love with vector art in the first place. The simple shapes, minimal colors, and brilliant composition of his work are something that I try to incorporate in all of my works as well, regardless of which style I'm working with.
Aside from video games and music, a vast majority of my inspiration comes from television and movies, mainly those that are animated. Steamboat Willie is not only one of my most favorite animated pieces, but also it is arguably the main foundation of Disney animation, something I have cherished and used as inspiration my entire life.

Rua is a professional freelance artist, creating logos as well as t-shirt designs. I have been inspired by his great work and amazing style to practice coloring and illustration in Illustrator.
Since getting into the business of creating t-shirt designs, I have looked to artists like this for inspiration. They really help when trying to come up with a very simple color scheme, or just to get a fresh new look at things when staring at the same design for far too long.

Now, I know that this is slightly against the rules, seeing as this inspiration doesn't stem from deviantART, but where would art be if some of the rules were never bent? The artist that I receive the most inspiration from is without a doubt Nick Bertke, better known as Pogo. He is a musical artist, known for having a very upbeat, calming, and almost angelic sound. I relate very much to his music because much like him, I take various objects, photos, and imagery, and mesh them all together in order to create something bigger, and much more beautiful. He is a remix artist, and I would definitely consider myself to be the same, although in a slightly different field.

What speaks to you? Who are you, in art? I challenge each and every one of you to post a journal of 5-7 personal inspirations. The deviations can be any medium or a mixture of all of them. Leave a link on this journal if you want me to check it out. Let's see what we have in common and who we can discover through one another!
